When to Elope in Breckenridge

No matter the season, Breckenridge is THE place to be for outdoor adventures. Each season brings its own unique set of activities and scenery, so you just have to pick what suits your vision and how you want to spend your elopement day!

Spring

Spring, from mid-April to early June, is considered Breckenridge’s quieter season. It’s the perfect time for those looking to escape the crowds! As the winter snow melts away, trails can get a bit muddy, but let that be a part of the adventure! The higher elevation trails may take a bit longer to open, but there’s still plenty to explore at lower elevations.

Spring is great for hiking, exploring waterfalls, and going on off-roading adventures through scenic mountain trails.

Summer

From mid-June to early September, Breckenridge transforms into an absolute paradise for adventurous couples wanting to go on a hike together. During summer, you’ll see beautiful hillsides covered with wildflowers, clear alpine lakes and experience cool nights – just right for some epic stargazing.

Summer is great for hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, rock climbing, paddleboarding, off-roading and exploring the rugged terrains by 4×4 vehicles.

Fall

Fall in Breckenridge is just magical. The mountainsides burst into a kaleidoscope of yellows and oranges, courtesy of the changing aspens. While predicting the exact timing of this color change can be tricky, late September to early October is usually the best time to visit. The temperatures during this time are also still very comfortable for your elopement day!

Fall is a good time for more hiking, aspen hunting, enjoying the vibrant foliage, and off-roading, as well.

Winter

Winter rolls in from mid-November and stays until early April, turning Breckenridge into a snowy paradise. This season is perfect if you’re into all the snow and ski action that Breckenridge has to offer. Daytime temperatures can vary from freezing to moderately warm, depending on the day. And even with shorter days, there is still plenty of time for some snowy adventures.

Of course, the winter season is all about the winter activities! You could go skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, sledding, ice fishing, snow tubing, cross-country skiing, and, for those seeking unique winter off-road thrills, guided snowcat or snowmobile excursions.

Pro Tip – I absolutely love early summer for a Breckenridge elopement! This time of year starts warming up nicely, the wildflowers are in full bloom, and you might even catch the mountain tops still dusted with snow. The trails are open and ready for exploring, plus the weather is more predictable, offering fewer surprises!

If you want to elope in Lake Dillon, you need to keep in mind that its shoreline is managed by different public lands, so figuring out the exact permit you need is going to be a bit tricky. (Don’t worry, I’d be happy to help you with this!!)
