There’s something uniquely magical about eloping in the Colorado Rockies—especially when it’s just you, the one you love, your pup in a tiny tuxedo, and a stunning lake view. As an Estes Park elopement photographer, I’ve captured so many love stories, but Haley and Chris’s wedding day at Mary’s Lake followed by portraits in Rocky Mountain National Park stands out. It was the perfect blend of romance, laughter, and spontaneous adventure (plus a little rain for good luck).

Getting Ready: A Calm Morning in the Mountains
Haley and Chris opted for a peaceful start to their day, getting ready separately in a cozy Airbnb cabin tucked into the forested hills of Estes Park. Surrounded by pine trees and the sounds of nature, the morning was full of anticipation and heartfelt moments. Haley’s dress was elegant, flowing and covered in lace. Simply perfect for a mountain elopement. While Chris kept it classic and casual with a navy suit without a tie.
Their dog, who was an absolute highlight of the day, proudly donned a tiny tuxedo. Complete with a bow tie. (Yes, he absolutely stole the show and had his own section in the photo gallery!)
As their Estes Park elopement photographer, I always recommend couples carve out time for slow, intentional getting-ready moments. It sets the tone for the entire day and gives space for real emotions to unfold naturally.

The Ceremony at Mary’s Lake: Intimate and Emotional
Nestled at the edge of Estes Park, Mary’s Lake is a hidden gem with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Haley and Chris chose this spot for their elopement because of its natural beauty, accessibility, and peaceful atmosphere.
With only a one close family member present, they exchanged vows under a soft overcast sky. The wind moved gently across the water as they exchanged vows. Their dog sat quietly nearby—still in his tux. As if he understood the importance of the moment.
From a photography standpoint, Mary’s Lake offered the most perfect setting. As their Estes Park elopement photographer, I positioned them to capture not only their connection but the scale and beauty of the surrounding wilderness. Every angle showcased the essence of what makes eloping in Estes Park so extraordinary.

Portraits in Rocky Mountain National Park: Wild, Free, and Beautiful
After their ceremony, we headed into Rocky Mountain National Park—a short drive away and home to some of the most iconic views in Colorado. From alpine meadows bursting with wildflowers to sweeping mountain overlooks, we explored a few spots. Taking in the incredible landscape and pausing often to capture their post-ceremony joy.
Haley and Chris were adventurous and playful, walking hand-in-hand, pausing for snuggles under pine trees, and, of course, including their pup in many of the frames.
One of the perks of working with an experienced Estes Park elopement photographer is knowing where to go for those quiet, scenic moments that feel like your own private corner of the world. We hit one of my favorite spots complete with incredible light and wide-open views. The results were pure magic.

Then Came the Rain (and Umbrellas)
Just as we reached the final overlook, the sky began to shift. A sudden storm rolled in—a classic Colorado afternoon shower—and we had just enough time to pull out clear umbrellas before the rain started falling.
Instead of running for the car, Haley and Chris leaned into the moment. Under the transparent umbrellas, mist rolling over the hills behind them, they shared some of their most intimate, emotional moments of the day.
Some couples fear the rain—but for these two, it became one of the most memorable part of their elopement. (Check out this post: “How to Deal With Bad Weather On Your Elopement Day”) As their Estes Park elopement photographer, I can honestly say the rainy shots ended up being some of the most breathtaking of the entire day.

Final Thoughts: Haley & Chris’s Love Story in the Wild
Haley and Chris’s elopement reminded me why I love what I do. Their day was about them—not a schedule, not a guest list, not a million traditions they felt obligated to follow. It was heartfelt, beautifully simple, and full of personality. From their choice of location to including their dog, every detail reflected who they are.
Eloping in Estes Park offers couples the chance to focus on what really matters: their love, their connection, and the breathtaking backdrop of the Colorado wilderness.
